Newmarket Rides

Duration: 2-4 hours each circuit

A landscape of rolling chalk valleys, pockets of ancient woodland, seasonal streams and picture perfect clusters of thatched lime-washed cottages – the area between Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds is special in so many ways.

Follow three circuits of 8-9 miles each between the villages of Moulton, Gazeley and Barrow.
Alton Water Cycle Track

Enjoy the tranquillity of Alton Reservoir, see the sights of the reservoir and wildlife from the vantage point of a bicycle saddle, bring your own or hire one. Explore the nature trail with its woodland ponds and bird hide on the south shore.
Thetford Forest Park

Thetford Forest with its many cycle tracks is a brillant place for off-road cycling. With something for everyone from beginners to die-hard experts. For the beginners green trail you only need to be able to ride a bike to enjoy this gentley sloping route, for the dies-hards there is the adrenalin rush of the black trail with its hills, thrills, bumps and bruises.
Kings Forest Rides

The King’s Forest Rides are two circular routes mostly off-road, through and around forest, heathland and farmland. A cycle link to Bury St. Edmunds railway station is also possible, from where there are regular train services from Cambridge, Ipswich, Newmarket and Stowmarket.

All of the off-road routes are on public bridleways or byways and all can be used by walkers, cyclists or horse riders. Routes have been described mainly for cycling and some sections can be quite challenging.
