My Chill Out Time “People who say Suffolk is flat should come on these walks!” says Alison Chapman, teaching assistant from Acton near Sudbury, Suffolk. She’s been on three organised walks in the last month (including one run by local ramblers), and sees them as great exercise, as well as an opportunity to find out more about the landscape. "I liked the fact that someone was telling us about the management of the landscape, how the woods were being maintained, and the type of trees we were looking at. I also enjoyed chatting to the other people and finding out what they were up to. Now my children are teenagers, I am able to get out more, and clear my brain!" The walks, organised by Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Stour Valley Project, attract all ages. Alison’s friend, who joined her for the Dawn Wildlife Wonder, a three mile stroll through ancient woodland at Arger Fen amongst birdsong and bluebells, to Assington Mill for breakfast with the owners, was so enthused that she later retraced her steps with her husband and children (although not at dawn!). The Dedham Vale AONB and Stour Valley Project’s programme of monthly walks run throughout the year. Each walk explores a different aspect of the Stour Valley, and usually accommodates up to 30 people, accompanied by two members of the Project team. Back to My Suffolk, Your Suffolk >
