My Suffolk, Your Suffolk - Mark and Kay Dewsbury

"We have lived at the Manorhouse at Beyton, near Bury St Edmunds, for 17 years, where we run our B&B. We are proud of our 5 Star Gold award from Visit Britain and were recently awarded Best B&B in the Tourism in Suffolk Awards 2008.

Our guests holiday here from all over Britain and come from many parts of the world. They enjoy the fact that they can easily get to all parts of Suffolk from Beyton, including the National Trust’s Ickworth House, a Georgian Italianate palace in an idyllic setting of over 1800 acres of parkland and gardens. West Stow Anglo-Saxon village, the Museum of East Anglian Life, set in 70 acres at Stowmarket, Thornham Walks near Eye and Sutton Hoo – the famous royal ship burial site near Woodbridge, are all worth a visit; particularly as these attractions include a walk, a river, and a café!

Some of our guests like a longer walk in the countryside and Suffolk is blessed with so many well signposted footpaths. Many link medieval churches, sometimes only a mile apart.

We keep a good selection of walk leaflets and ordnance survey maps for guests to use and offer washing and drying facilities, for that occasional day when it might rain! Some of our guests will walk from our gate in Beyton to Woolpit. It’s a 4 mile walk taking in 4 churches, and you can get the bus back after lunch or tea. We even have our own 3 mile circular walk in Beyton, which guests enjoy to do before heading out for an evening meal.

Personally, one of our favourite circular coastal paths is from Dunwich, passing Minsmere RSPB. You can spend a whole day watching marsh harriers, avocets and sometimes we see a bittern. With 4 possible refreshment stops on the route, you can pace it as fast or as slow as you like!"
