Landguard Point
Easy Going Trail
Introduction
Landguard Nature Reserve sits at the southernmost tip of the Suffolk Heritage Coast, where a rare vegetated shingle spit meets sweeping views across the Rivers Stour and Orwell. Just moments from Felixstowe’s lively seafront and the Port of Felixstowe, this 33‑acre Site of Special Scientific Interest feels wonderfully remote, shaped by shingle, salt air and centuries of coastal history. Its mix of shingle, grassland and scrub supports unusual plants, migrating birds and a wealth of insects, while reminders of the area’s military past—along with the impressive Landguard Fort and nearby Felixstowe Museum—add a fascinating layer of heritage to the landscape.
Walking at Landguard is all about discovery, with easy‑to‑follow paths, boardwalk access to the shingle beach and endless opportunities to spot wildlife, ships and historic features. You can wander through the dune‑like “Butts,” watch huge container vessels glide into port from the John Bradfield Viewing Area, or explore the fort’s maze of rooms and tunnels. With accessible facilities, dog‑friendly areas and a café serving hot food and treats, Landguard offers a refreshing mix of nature, history and sea air—perfect for a memorable day on foot.
Please check Landguard Website for further visitor information including opening times and facilities.
