Redgrave and Lopham Fen Easy Going Trails

Introduction

Redgrave & Lopham Fen, managed by the Suffolk WildlifeTrust, is the largest remaining river valley fen in England and one of Europe’s most important wetlands. Spanning 163 hectares of lowland fen, grassland, and woodland, this National Nature Reserve sits on the Suffolk–Norfolk border near Diss. Its peaceful open vistas, rich plant life, and year‑round grazing by hardy ponies create a uniquely atmospheric place to explore on foot. With over 270 plant species, thriving dragonfly and butterfly populations, and the internationally significant fen raft spider, the reserve is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and casual walkers alike.

Walking at Redgrave & Lopham Fen offers a choice of waymarked trails where you can wander through reedbeds, along the River Waveney, and across open fen. The reserve is open all year, with toilets, an accessible toilet, and a picnic area available near the car park. Dogs are welcome on a lead to help protect sensitive wildlife, and while the trails are unsuitable for wheelchairs, they offer a rewarding mix of scenery for those on foot. Whether you’re here for a peaceful stroll, birdwatching, or simply to enjoy the tranquillity of this wild landscape, Redgrave & Lopham Fen is a place that invites you to linger and explore.
