Thornham Walks is set within the 2,000‑acre Thornham Estate in the valley of the River Dove in North Suffolk, signposted from the A140 between Ipswich and Norwich. The landscape is a rich mix of parkland, ancient woodland, meadows, farmland and unfarmed areas, shaped by centuries of careful land management and conservation. Open to the public since 1978, the estate offers a peaceful rural setting with ponds, mature trees and abundant wildlife, while remaining easy to access with onsite parking and a central visitor hub.

There is plenty to enjoy at Thornham Walks, making it an excellent destination for walkers of all ages and abilities. Around 12 miles of waymarked permissive trails wind through woodland, parkland and riverside landscapes, including a one‑mile surfaced loop suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Along the way, visitors can discover wooden sculptures, relax in picnic areas, or let children explore the playground. Facilities include the Forge Café, artisan shops, a visitor centre and eco toilets, and dogs are welcome on leads, with a dedicated enclosed off‑lead area. The beautifully restored Victorian Walled Garden, events, and peaceful spaces to explore make Thornham Walks ideal for anything from a gentle stroll to a full day out in the countryside.

Easy Access Trail

A one‑mile surfaced trail leads towards the Walled Garden in the centre of the estate where you will find the Beyond the Wall Tearoom and gardens (check opening times). The trail is easy to follow with plenty to enjoy along the way.
