Introduction

West Stow Country Park is set in the heart of the Lark Valley on the edge of the Brecks, covering around 125 acres of attractive countryside near Bury St Edmunds. The park features a diverse landscape of open heathland, grassland and Scots pine belts, alongside areas of deciduous woodland, a large lake and the River Lark. This varied setting supports a wealth of wildlife and provides a peaceful backdrop for visitors, with easy access, a large car park and a well-equipped visitor centre and café.

There is plenty to do at West Stow Country Park, whether you’re visiting for a short walk or a full day out. A choice of waymarked walking trails allows you to explore the different habitats at your own pace, from gentle riverside strolls to longer circuits around the lake and heath. Wildlife enthusiasts can visit bird hides and feeding areas, families can enjoy the adventure playground and picnicking spots, and those seeking calm can follow the Mindfulness Trail. With food and drink available, fascinating heritage attractions nearby and space to enjoy every season, the park offers something for everyone.

Easy Going Trails

The Red Nature Walk is a lovely woodland loop on natural paths with some exposed tree roots. The Yellow Pumphouse Route and the Blue Lake Walk are more challenging and some sections may not be suitable for wheelchairs. These routes can be combined to make a longer adventure. There are benches and information points around the park.
